Delicious Apple and Pear with a Walnut Crumble.
What you’ll need-
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1/3 cup chopped walnuts
1/3 cup rolled oats
1 cup plain flour
2/3 cup brown sugar
1 and 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 and 1/2 tablespoons caster sugar
Firstly pre-heat your oven to around 190 degrees. Then peel and chop your apples and pear. I ended up only using 2 of my apples as they were biggish. You need enough fruit chunks to fill 3/4 of whatever you choose to bake it in. (Cake tins work well.) I usually cut my pear smaller than my apples just so it spreads in with the apples more.
Now throw it in the dish your using to bake. And sprinkle over the caster sugar and 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon. Squeeze your 2 tablespoons of lemon juice over it all. You can add more or less lemon. It gives it a yummy tang and also stops the fruit from going brown while you make the crumble. (Taste your apples! Mine were really ‘tart’ it is the only word to describe it right.)
Now use your hands and toss it all together to coat.
You can put it aside now and grab a mixing bowl, and chuck in your flour and whats left of your cinnamon. Chop your chilled butter and put it in too.
Using your fingers rub the butter into the flour and cinnamon until it is kind of a crumby dough.
It doesn’t taste very good at this stage so don’t absent-mindedly lick your finger like I did. Add your walnuts, oats and brown sugar. Make sure the brown sugar is compacted down when measuring it out.
Once it is all combined go ahead and pile it on top of your fruit chunks.
Don’t press it down or you’ll end up with a bisicut sitting on top of your fruit, leave it crumbly and sprinkle thickly over the top making sure its all covered.
When it looks like this, put it in the oven for 30-35 minutes. Or until golden and crunchy on top and the fruit is soft and moist inside.
And then you serve it and EAT IT!
So yummy with a little vanilla ice cream or cream while still warm. But so good nice and cold too!
